Rector of the Catholic University of Lublin: Attempt to set fire to Warsaw synagogue is barbaric

"The attempt to set fire to the Nożyk Synagogue in Warsaw should be considered unacceptable and shameful. It is an act of barbarism," stressed the Rector of the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Rev. Prof. Miroslaw Kalinowski, founder of the Abraham Joshua Heschel Center for Catholic-Jewish Relations at the Catholic University of Lublin.

The Rector of the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) noted that regardless of differences, worldviews, challenges, and political beliefs, tolerance, and dialogue are the only possible form of problem-solving. "We strongly disagree that in Poland and Europe, synagogues should be set on fire. But this also applies to churches. There can be no difference in evaluation and condemnation of acts of devastation," he said.

Rev. Prof. Kalinowski also expressed solidarity with Chief Rabbi of Poland Michael Schudrich and the Jewish community.
